Pathways-Shropshire Ltd - History

The idea for Pathways-Shropshire Ltd started with the Community Services Directorate of Shropshire County Council. The Council already funded and managed a first class work preparation and employment placement project for people with disabilities called ENABLE, but it was felt that there was a gap for a more sheltered type of work opportunity for people with a disability who might not thrive (at least at first) in an open employment situation.

So the idea of a social firm development agency for Shropshire was born - an agency that would be independent of the County Council, operating as a trading enterprise which reinvested all of its profits in its social aims. In March 2003, Pathways-Shropshire emerged from its development phase. It is now a charitable company limited by guarantee, with an independent Board of Directors, and a central base at Harlescott Barns in Shrewsbury.

Pathways now has a number of businesses which operate in the fields of hospitality and catering, horticulture and domestic gardening. Each one offers accessible opportunities to gain work skills in a supportive and positive environment. Information on each of these divisions can be accessed by clicking on Enterprises on the menu above.
